It would do in a functional democracy.
But I have my doubts whether it will even move the needle . A third of the USA are full willing members of a cult. A third live in wilful ignorance. And the remainder seem stunned by how quickly the country has fallen into authoritarianism.

They should copy the UK where every cabinet position has a shadow spokesperson in the opposition. Their job is to cover the brief of the cabinet member in depth and book themselves onto media to critique the government and offer alternative policies.
