"Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one." Marcus Aurelius

whisper to me; dark nights, and
winter's fated kiss

"How had I allowed myself to become so busy? How long had it been since I'd spent a day in the sun, eating sandwiches from a cooler and watching water ripple across the surface of a lake?..."

empty
still
nothing left
inside
i'm at the shore
watching the tide
recede
knowing
it won't be coming back
but
i can see the dawn
light through the crack
a glimpse
of sun
between endless sea
and stormy sky

that's it
life
that moment, that
exquisite
glimpse

Love Is

by nikki giovanni

Some people forget that love is
tucking you in and kissing you
"Good night"
no matter how young or old you are

Some people don't remember that
love is
listening and laughing and asking
questions
no matter what your age

Few recognize that love is

still

winter lives in me,
my spirit enspelled
by snow-still fields,
bare trees sleeping deep,
waters made glass beneath
cold-bright stars and
the naked, empty moon.
a knife-wind hisses
indifferent, austere,
through autumn's final leaves
flensing my naked soul.
i feel clean, old as stone,

Art is what an artist does, not what an artist explains.

poems merely are;
justified, like flowers, by
their fleeting beauty

fire
no metaphor, or symbol
just fire
three candles
enough to see you
shiver
as my fingers
trace your hip
caress your scar
trail across your
silken belly
i kiss (kitten-soft)
beneath your ear
your moan
moves the earth
i take breath
to blow them out
you say
let them burn

a wild wind blows
tonight
feral,
unleashed,
off bare mountains
thru naked trees
knifing me
hunched yet walking
watching the stars
burn and vanish
scudding cloud,
wintry dawn
ice in my face
frostfire breath
all
worth the pain
to lie in your
fire
to know the
taste
of you
on my lips
