Hoseok murmurs the last part under his breath, “At least not, like, right away…” “Hm?” Jimin says obnoxiously. “Shut up,” Hoseok groans again.

Jimin ponders his relationship with time. Over a decade ago, it seemed that time was something that happened outside him, that happened to other people, or at least happened to other parts of the universe. He wasn’t weighed by time, wading in and out of its inevitable current without being washed away. Sailing at near light speed so frequently meant that hundreds of years had passed for humanity, continuing to steadily march forward, yet despite this, he realized, the cosmos remained largely unchanged. During the last ten years, time became gravity, weighing him down, chaining him to the grindingly slow pace of the universe. Nothing changed yet everything changed. While Taehyung and Jungkook leapt across those ten years in a blink, Jimin was imprisoned to time. Clawing to catch up to them. Fighting for every second. Running and running and running. Now, he is also captive within the cell of his own mind. Memories are distant and elusive, where one moment he’s able to grasp them, the next moment they fall between his fingers like stardust, lost to darkness. While time is oppressive, it also feels fragile. Or maybe his own existence feels fragile, slipping away from him over the years. If he closes his eyes, will the nightmare return? If he sleeps, will he wake up the same person? Or will he be someone different? Maybe he is already dreaming. A dream where Taehyung is here beside him. Maybe his mind is finally completely broken, only left to his fantasies. It’s a strangely calming revelation that losing his mind could mean such a beautiful nonreality. The thought doesn’t get his adrenaline going. Jimin leans back in the medbed and watches Taehyung sleep. Does he dream too?

A little bit of a different #wipwednesday with some psychological horror vmin
His hands were trembling violently as he dialed Taehyung, and when he got his voicemail, he called again. No answer. Please leave a message after the tone. “Taehyung, Taehyung!” Jimin cried into the phone. “Please pick up the phone! You have to come home now! Please, I saw it again. It’s real! The house, it-it’s the same! The person! And there’s blood, blood everywhere! Please you have to come home, I’m so scared. Please pick up the phone, Taehyung!” Me (22:13): Pls answer! Me (22:13): Taehyung!! Jimin curled up in the corner of the bathroom, body shuddering and teeth chattering. He jumped when his phone buzzed and the screen lit up. “Taehyung!” he gasped. Jimin, what is it?! Are you okay? What’s happ— “Come home!” I’m coming. I’m almost home, but Jimin, what happened? Are you hurt? Taehyung’s deep voice was uncharacteristically alarmed. “I don’t know. I—” Jimin felt like he was dying. His chest was so heavy and he choked for air. Calm down, Jimin. You’re not dying. You have to breathe. Remember to breathe… Jimin could hardly hear Taehyung over his desperate gasps. An unclear amount of time passed before there was a thud against the bathroom door. Jimin yelped and hugged his knees closer to his chest. “Jimin,” came Taehyung’s muffled voice from the other side. The doorknob rattled. “Jimin, you have to unlock the door.” Jimin crawled along the tiles and struggled with the lock. Taehyung burst in and crouched down on the floor with him, gripping him by the shoulders. “Where are you hurt?” Taehyung asked, inspecting him for injuries. “I don’t see any blood.” “It’s out there,” Jimin croaked. Taehyung looked him over again, stood, then sped out of the bathroom. “Wait, he's there!”

Jimin jerks awake. Fear bursts through his body, tingles hot from his scalp to his toes. The disorientation is overwhelming. He doesn’t know where he is. Like every time he wakes up. He sits bolt upright, his eyes flying around the dimly lit room, heart racing. He’s not in the cockpit, not trapped in the endless everything and claustrophobic nothing. Somewhere a monitor beeps louder, faster. He tears at tape on the top of his hand and a small device falls off. “Jimin.” Jimin whips his head up to see Taehyung stumbling over to his bedside. It’s surreal for a moment, a familiar face in the dark. His skin prickles until relief washes over him. “Jimin, you’re awake,” Taehyung exclaims softly, pushing Jimin back down into the pillows. He has dark circles under his eyes and his hair is disheveled. “Where,” Jimin croaks. “The Bulletproof,” Taehyung says, reapplying the device to Jimin’s hand and smoothing the tape. He looks between Jimin’s darting eyes before he lifts a hydro-pouch with a straw up to Jimin’s lips. “The medical bay.” Jimin takes a few gulps of cool water and clears his throat. “What happened?” he mumbles, mind moving much slower compared to his muscles trembling from adrenaline. “How much do you remember?” comes Yoongi’s calm voice. He stands on the opposite side of the bed, entering commands into the computer against the wall displaying what are probably Jimin’s vitals, his expression unreadable. Taehyung helps Jimin adjust the pillows behind him so he can sit more comfortably and sip his water. Jimin frowns and shrugs. The impression of what happened is vague and muddy, like waking up from a panicked nightmare, like it had happened outside himself. His head throbs painfully. “You’ve been asleep for two days,” Yoongi explains, reliably straightforward. “We had to sedate you.” “Oh,” Jimin swallows. He repeats uneasily, “But what happened?”

The timer beeps on the rice cooker when Yoongi adds the vegetables to the skillet, and as if on cue, Namjoon wanders into the living room, laptop balanced on his arm. He plops onto the couch with a soft grunt and absently turns on the television to a drama they’ve already watched. Yoongi mixes the stir-fry together, the fat and oil crackling and popping, fragrant smoke billowing. “Beer?” Yoongi calls over the domestic din, already walking to the refrigerator and yanking a can from the pack. “Uh,” Namjoon says distractedly, eyes not leaving his laptop, fingers typing quickly. “Yeah!” Beer in hand, Yoongi joins Namjoon in the living room, perching on the armrest of the couch. He holds the can out patiently, and Namjoon eventually looks over, smiles up to his eyes, and accepts the drink. “Gonbae,” Namjoon toasts, tapping their cans together. He knocks back his beer with a satisfied sigh before leaving it on the coffee table and focusing on his laptop again. “Still got work?” Yoongi asks, idly watching Namjoon over his shoulder. The marketing copy on the screen may as well be nonsense, and his eyes cross a little. “Ah, yeah,” Namjoon mumbles. “Have a deadline tonight.” He leans back and scratches his hands through his hair. “Sorry, baby,” he grimaces apologetically. Yoongi hums, unbothered, and returns to the heat of the kitchen to toss the stir-fry. The meat is browning nicely, the edges curling and crisping up, and the onions are looking soft and juicy. He polishes off his beer and opens a second while he stirs the meat until it's cooked through. With the skillet removed from the heat, Yoongi fluffs the steaming rice and scoops out two generous portions. He tops the rice with heaps of spicy pork and tucks a few leaves of washed lettuce into the corner of the bowls. “Here, babe.” Yoongi walks the bowls over to his partner. “Ah, chopsticks.” “This looks so fuckin’ good,” Namjoon gushes, sliding his laptop onto the table while Yoongi returns with two sets of chopsticks, some kimchi, and leftover ssamjang. “Should be pretty spicy,” Yoongi warns. “And hot,” he quickly adds when Namjoon immediately scoops up a thick chunk of meat and lifts it toward his mouth. Namjoon makes a pouty face and gently blows on the meat before popping it in his mouth. “Hot,” he agrees through the mouthful. “But good!” Yoongi blows on his own for a taste. The pork belly is tender and succulent with just enough fried crunch, and the impact of the gochugaru is no joke. He nods, satisfied with the outcome. He forms a pocket with a piece of lettuce, filling it with rice, meat, kimchi, and a smear of ssamjang and shoves the whole food parcel into his mouth. Only when he hears a giggle does he notice Namjoon watching him with playful eyes. “What,” Yoongi murmurs, chewing on both sides of his cheeks. “Nothin’,” Namjoon grins between bites. “Just looked cute. Chubby cheeks.” Yoongi blames the apartment being hot from cooking for the way his face heats.

Taehyung walks around the corner, tying a cute bear-themed apron around his waist. He gives Jimin a charming smile while his elegant fingers quickly move across the register screen to enter Jimin’s usual order. “I haven’t seen Jungkook in a minute.” “We broke up,” Jimin says flatly. He taps his phone to the card reader. Taehyung winces slightly and starts pulling a shot of fragrant espresso. “I’m sorry.” Jimin hears the unspoken “again?” behind his words. “Don’t be sorry. Can you make it a quad today?” “Long night?” Taehyung says sympathetically. He grinds a second shot of espresso and scoops ice into a glass. “You could say so,” Jimin replies, making himself comfortable at his favorite table next to the window. He props his chin in his hand and gently strokes the silky petals of the tiny flower arrangement between his fingers. Taehyung joins him a few moments later, two drinks in hand. He slides into the chair opposite Jimin and passes him the iced americano. Jimin slips the straw out of the paper and stirs the drink, the ice ringing against the glass. “How are you holding up?” Taehyung asks tentatively. He takes a delicate sip of his cocoa, mug cupped in both hands. Jimin always finds it amusing that someone who dislikes coffee as much as Taehyung would operate a café. Jimin pretends to hum thoughtfully. “I’ll be okay.” “Well, if you ever need someone to talk to…” Taehyung offers. And maybe Jimin is imagining the implication in his voice. Goosebumps break out across his skin. Ever since he and Taehyung met, there has been an undeniable connection between them. A clear chemistry. And he has always found the man attractive. Taehyung shifts forward in his chair, leans closer, elbows on the table. Jimin’s eyes naturally shift to Taehyung’s arms, thick and muscular from his time enlisted. Jimin wets his lips before he remembers to take another gulp of his iced americano. “Thanks, Taehyung,” Jimin smiles. It seems a little unfair to involve Taehyung in the tangle of his dark web, unfair to Jungkook, too, but he can’t help himself. “We can get dinner together sometime?” “I’d really like that,” Taehyung agrees easily. Jimin lets the immediate guilt rush over him for a split second then shakes it away. He’s still a person, still deserving of love and happiness. Why should he walk the dark alone?

Jimin turns and a fellow patron is standing in front of the next art piece, hands clasped behind his back. His shoulders are wide, like really wide, Jimin observes. The man—along with his unusually broad shoulders—is actually blocking the larger part of Jimin’s view of the displayed object, a statue, he thinks. Patiently, he pretends to continue looking at the painting in front of him, but the man hasn’t budged. In fact, he’s tilting his head like he’s really keen on the piece. Jimin huffs through his nose and decides to chance an awkward social encounter to go see what exactly is so fascinating that this guy can’t move on. He steps up to the statue, shoulder to broad shoulder with the man. The man looks over and acknowledges him with a kind smile. And… he’s fucking gorgeous, Jimin realizes. He’s taller, posture absolutely flawless, wearing a finely tailored suit that still manages to look cool and casual on his built, slender frame. His soft auburn hair is styled back, a few perfectly placed strands fall over his forehead. His mouth is a plump, natural red hue. And his large, youthful eyes crinkle charmingly when he smiles. Jimin feels his heart thudding in his chest for a moment, and then he remembers to politely smile back. The man is truly handsome, in a classic way, like maybe he’s a celebrity, and Jimin kind of wants to keep staring at him and not the artwork he should be staring at. The handsome stranger turns back to the statue. “It’s really beautiful, huh?” He says. And Jimin blinks like an idiot, remembering what the man is actually referring to.
