oh no here i am (person interested in the cannibalism aspect of it) it is VERY traumatic but survivors often rationalize it and recover and…live relatively normal lives. it’s sensationalized often and used to dehumanize others but quite frankly there’s nothing more human to me than survival. +more
to elaborate further, with the whaleship essex, george pollard attempted to continue whaling and living his usual life (and he was part of another shipwreck). unfortunately he would hoard food due to fear that he would starve again, so he was very clearly affected by his experience. however with the uruguayan flight disaster, the survivors used their religion to help cope with the trauma of eating their friends and loved ones. with the donner party, many members fully denied it because the trauma of their experience was too much to handle. it truly depends on the people, their rationalization, and the help they received afterward. humans are complex.
