Yup, the copious use of tunnels certainly didn't help, but it would never have saved those trees - they were planted PURELY for the "...trees planted" headline 🫤

Close planting isn't the problem - subsequent thinning out is always in the long-term plan.
Its knowing full well that the trees have no chance of reaching the water table that is the crime.
But it still gives them the headline: '300,000 trees planted' so ultimately:
