My personal philosophy: "Will I enjoy this". Encapsulates a lot of what you said which goes way beyond the bounds of just boardgames IMO. Specific to boardgames: I value agency/choice vs randomness and will it challenge me? Always winning or wins predicated strictly on luck are no fun.
