Toot a game about music. Also a palindrome...

This is what I wanted to hear. Gonna have to find it now.

I'm right there with you. It's one of the last things we need to do for Bagged & Boarded to kickstart and we're almost to the otherside.

Yeah I'd rather not give up my voice. Though I wrote and posted a long helpful comment on reddit recently and the OP replied to me saying "I could have just asked chat gpt if I wanted to".

I'm still not sure if I felt attacked or complimented.

Super exciting! Look forward to backing it.

I'd argue that almost every game is a model of a more complex system. From the abstract (go/chess modelling war) to more thematic mid-weight euros i.e. ark nova etal

I'll give my take on this as one of my core design philosophies is strong thematic mapping.

1. Helps learning
2. Magnifies connection to the theme/story
3. Increases emotional connection
4. Games are fundamentally modeling more complex systems
5. Tight coupling helps communicate through abstraction

Factorio making the list makes me very happy. Not sure Wube is indie any longer but they are one of my favorite studios.

Sounds like the 5p to 4p jump is making more and more sense.
November 28, 2024 at 2:48 AM
The one time I do find 5p to be better than 4 is when the game relies on interaction and player blocking mechanisms. These types of games perform worse on the low end of player count, unless you tweak setup and other parts of the rules.

In all honesty 4p is imo the gold standard so provided you don't have to cut to 3 it should be good!
November 27, 2024 at 6:33 PM
I feel you on that. My game Bagged & Boarded had a weird play count traversal. Initially 3-5 because 2p versions are often meh. We got 2p to work well so 2-5p was the new count.

In late dev the game was so snappy we tried 6p with minor changes and it not only works but may be my fav#.

I feel this so hard. You're not the only one in that boat. I 100% agree its worth getting it right. Art looks great btw!
November 22, 2024 at 12:18 AM
Yeah that feels like a great improvement even without playing with it yet.

Oh nice. That streamlines it.

Done and done. Got to play on Sunday at BGG.Con in the hot games room. Loved how thematic the game was. Had a lot of fun and was constantly chuckling. Keep it up!

I feel this.

This was a fun one, looking forward to changes.

Thanks so much for playing Damion! Also for teaching us Rock Hard. It was a pretty cool game too.

What would have made it five stars?
December 26, 2023 at 7:35 AM
I blame it on my group(s).
