Just a goober who plays too many games and knows too many random life skills.
I tried the demo at the last...? steam fest. The combat is so loose and wild with the Rube Goldberg shit you can get away with you're lining up shotguns into ORAORAORAORA into other stuff. Not sure how the atmosphere will be, but the gameplay is pure clown shoes. Would recommend.

To this day, rather than Google or look something up, I'll just shoot messages to a few people. Is researching myself faster and more efficient? Yes, but I prefer the social conversation that'll happen. I do the same whenever I touch an MMO (typically to the annoyance of the other MMO players)

"I want old school Final Fantasy"
"Here's 50 modern games like that"
"No I want a FINAL FANTASY"
"Here is a game made by the creator of old FF, with the composer of old FF, using the themes and presentation of old FF"
"No I don't care about the soul, I want FINAL FANTASY™ but my way"

Not only that, habits are reinforced. In order to foster thinking, engaging, and experimentation you have to push people to use those skills. I'm in the mind of, by creating bottom barrel media, you are also adding to the problem. You want people to engage deeper with art? Make deep art.

IIRC, Thiel was the original billionaire that was using blood transfusions from young teens to try and de-age himself 15+ years ago. It's wild, you see things like Altered Carbon or other ridiculous portrayals and think, that's cranked up to 11, that no one is that deranged. Turns out, they are.

Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion.

No shit, I had 3(!) copies of it, none of them worked. It was bullshit. A working copy will be mine.

This is why I'm here. Half your random choices are some of my favorite experiences as a kid

It's something that's driven me back into the arms of strategy and simulation style games. There's not really any 'loops', just systems. Creating a truly engaging playground for growth, skill, and thought provoking situations. It's hard for a game without that depth to keep my attention.

I think it was around Halo 3...? A Bungie dev interview stated that the secret to making a great game is finding a "30 second loop that you can repeat without getting bored". Now that games are 200 hours long, we get 5 flavors of "30 seconds" to choose from!

Shout out to Dragon Hunter, which further fueled my curiosity for foreign fantasy as a teen. Grabbed it thinking it was manga, only to realize it was a whole 'nother culture of cool ideas I didn't know about.

I played it for the first time earlier this year and was blown away. It genuinely feels like a contemporary rogue-like game while still being interesting and unique. Insane how ahead of its time it was.

And if you think you're not blind because you watched the Eye patch Wolf video, you're wrong. That video didn't touch on a fraction of the stuff in this game, it's mysteries, it's lore, it's progression. You will still be blind going in, trust me.

Can't talk about the character, but I know 3 Randy's IRL and they are all perfect angels, so I believe it.

"How do we stop all the illegal money laundering in our virtual economy?"

"Fuck it we crash it"

From a business point of view, preservation is untenable. This is why emulators and emulation should be encouraged and accessible to allow the knowledge seekers to preserve and experience the older titles
October 19, 2025 at 4:18 PM
My interpretation is that games preservation requires a lot of work, whether it's a remaster, making an emulator for a new system, and the financial returns are low. Old games are a niche that most people will ignore. Movies are cheap and easy to maintain and re-release in comparison.

It's beautiful. I had a PoS dell laptop in the late 00s, would bust it out in highschool running mame and whatever doujin fighters I could find. The touhou one was a favorite.

People shit on Melty Blood being in the bathroom, but running sets on a laptop in the airport or anywhere else is fucking lit.

Me whenever I try something I don't like based on vibes.

I had a similar journey recently, but I bought 3. By the end, the last one I did only took about 4 hours total, felt pretty good and confident. Then I tried a Master Grade, and after having to fiddle 8 little pieces (that don't lock together) in specific positions for a knee joint....

Hell yeah, 7th Saga mentioned. It is an RPG I never got far in for obvious reasons, but I was fascinated by it as a kid coming off of early Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 1 and 4. Didn't know about the changes. I'll definitely either check out Elnard or The New Class when I get some time.

IIRC, wasn't that Cygames original plan? "What are old, well off salary men into? Horse races? Let's make that". Rarely do you see a target demographic captured so accurately
