Talking from (unfortunate) experience, this kind of thinking is dangerous. My MIL believed that my BIL’s schizophrenia was controllable via diet and that psychosis was a allergic reaction to certain foods. He is now in a forensic psych hospital for life and she and her husband are dead.

My Dad used to frame it that the issue was with my Mum and how she managed her feelings. It’s just a way to avoid accountability without acknowledging the damage you do to people that you profess to love.

As the daughter of a prolific cheater I can attest that it does have a massive impact on the childs mental health and how much shit you are taught to take. I feel such rage for the stuff my Mum had to deal with and how he minimised her pain and even mocked her in front of us and we thought it’s ok.

One of my friends went on a date with a guy in his mid sixties who said to her that he usually dates younger women than her (she was 45) but he could try to make it work. She promptly ran up the restaurant bill and refused a second date.

I had a friend who was a realtor and she quit real estate after a dude jumped out of a wardrobe and lunged at her while she was closing up after an open house. These types of guys know exactly what they are doing.
