And this goes on every day for people around the world, and "90 die in landslide" or "2M people have lost their homes and parts of their families" or "Toddler accidentally shoots sibling"...that goes on for way longer than a damn headline. It's almost like the headline isn't true in a way, you know?

But this has gutted me. There's people I really know who are really going through terminal cancer, not knowing the exact path of the f*cking thing, having to live it every day, knowing that one's life will be ending and the other's life irrevocably changed. Already has changed.

Hearing about death and terrible illness is so...abstract most of the time. We hear about it so often because we're more connected to the world. We read about it, are sad for a moment or so, and then we keep going. It all *sounds* terrible, I'm so sorry. I *do* mean it.

But someone I know - a former GM and occasional player in my games - is dying of cancer, and that extending his life much longer means a lot of things lining up just right...the news just...knocked me down. Best way to put it.

They don't have to be fake reports! There's plenty of real discrimination happening out there. If they *really* want to hear about "illegal discriminatory practices," hell, let 'em know about actual events that BIPOC, women, transfolk, non-Christian kids have to deal with in school.
