The two sides of living through crises as a social scientists. On one hand it’s fascinating to see theory come to life as before one’s eyes. On the other hand (and, as Wendell Bell might argued, as a consequence of the kinds of stories sociological theory tends to emphasize), it sucks.

Since I was already in the neighborhood, I decided to visit the Museum of mineralogy. So many fancy rocks! It’s just a shame that my adventures as an ethnographer of mining only ever taught me to appreciate less charismatic minerals such as hematite and magnetite 😅
