After a few attempts I felt pretty much the same way. I absolutely _love_ the way the movement phase works, but just couldn't get past the combat and VP conditions. I _want_ to like it, but I won't go back to it for some time.

I've also really been enjoying Burning Banners solo - which is kind of a remastered, old school, fantasy game.

Most of my examples would be hex and counter wargames - but others that I've enjoyed would be some that are more cooperative than competitive, such as Dorf Romanitik, Arkham Horror, and Pandemic. I've found that Root and Smallworld work fairly well solo as well - with the right mindset.

I have very few (if any?) games that were designed to be played solo - but several of the games I play have mechanics (chit pull, random initiative) that lend themselves to those who want to play those game solo.

Between board games and table top RPGs we spend a decent amount of time away from the screen.

When I had more time (and fewer cats :-)) I used to leave large hex and counter wargames set up to solo - and would spend hours pushing counters. So much fun!!
