I went to post about the National Japanese American Memorial in D.C., which is beautiful but usually missed by tourists. It is a deeply staggering admission of guilt and a warning to future Americans. I went to link to the inscriptions and-

This picture is from my Russian friend in Chita. His grandmother's house was built by the Japanese prisoner of WW2. Actually my friend's father was prisoned there, and he had suicide after backing to Japan. It's misery. But I'm glad to be friends with him. We should not repeat this kind of history.

Finally, there are objects that might serve as warnings about the nation's current political trajectory, like this delicate ink drawing by Chiura Obata of imprisoned Japanese Americans transplanting trees at the Topaz internment camp in Utah during World War II

On this date in 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by the imperial forces of Japan. The loss of life and destruction was horrific, and it pulled the U.S. into the war.

For Japanese Americans, it was a terrifying time. Overnight, we became the “enemy within” because we were of Japanese descent. /1
