But yea, this stuff direly needs more attention. History repeats itself when it comes to Twitter, Facebook, Bluesky, and whatever other big tech service there is.

I'm definitely thinking of picking up the speed again with posting on the fediverse, as I have usually done so for causal posting as of recently. Thinking I'll migrate from my current instance to hooves.social.

Each instance does have its own rules set in place so you do need to do a little bit of digging around to find an instance that works just right for you. With each instance comes a tight-knit local community. This means you know your local moderation team on a higher level than you ever could here.

Fediverse instances are webbed together and allow for a social media experience without a central server, made possible by a shared ActivityPub protocol. You can even host your own instance if you wanted. The user experience typically exceeds that of Twitter or Bluesky in terms of features.

If there's anything to take away from this, take it as an advertisement for independently-run, federated services like "fediverse" instances. This means things like Mastodon, Akkoma, Misskey, Pleroma, etc.

You can't trust a large company to not either have terrible moderation or become horrifically enshittified. Even both can end up happening - many such cases!
