Mostly because it's pushed by companies trying to offer you "exclusives" for paying for the game before having an opportunity to see if it's actually going to be as good as they advertise it to be, so you give them the money for a product they haven't finished, that might suck.

I remember when I was on Help Desk and I wrote us up a password generator, and I passed it to the SysAd team, who told me he didn't wanna use mine, because he made his own that was a single, unreadable line of code. And it's just like "Cool hope NO ONE ever has to read through that"
