The Peech Boys, bound to DJ Larry Levan and Paradise Garage, where he offered an electic mix of disco, new wave, house, reggae and funk, to a sprung floor via an uncompromising sound system, establishing a standard that club promoters still aspire to. #garagehouse #keithharing

Multiple versions of "Tu veux ou to veux pas" have appeared in France since that late '60s, all of them covers of the 1967 hit by Brazilian soul legend Wilson Simonal, "Nem vem que não tem." Liberties were taken. The '85 synth-pop version is all we know of this Mooglie. #synthpop #sambasoul #yéyé

The Limit was Paul Edgley, who was also the in-house graphic designer for UK indie Survival Records, source of some quality minimal syth work in the early '80s, including the bass forward "Take It," released in 1981, the first of two Edgley singles.

Dalek, I Love You seems underappreciated, despite quality records, and contributions to OMD and Teardrop Explodes. #synthpop #postpunk

"Yellow Pearl" was the Top of the Pops theme between 1981 and 1986, a product of the Thin Lizzy leader's seemingly unlikely partnership with Midge Ure, whose influence and impact is on '80s popular music seems woefully underrecognized.

This week in 1982, Japan's "Ghosts" concluded an 8-week run in the UK singles chart, peaking at #5. Seemingly not radio-friendly, with a minimalist arrangement of synths and marimba supporting David Sylvian's soul-baring vocal performance, "Ghosts" propelled Japan to an unsurvivable zenith.

Those that happened upon The Golden Age of The Wireless in 1982 were astonished by the new wave sideman's songwriting and musicianship. Dolby raised the bar for synth-pop, with intricate arrangements and brilliant lyrics. Fans had a secret society for almost a year, until "Science!" broke.

"Twist à Saint-Tropez" was the first Telex single, reimaging the April 1962 French rock hit by Les Chats sauvages. It was not a breakthru for the Belgian trio but one year later their propulsive original, "Mosow Diskow,' opening their 1979 debut LP, became dance floor classic.

Scottish synthy psyche-pop trio Alone Again Or (big fans of Love, it seems) released their 2nd single in 1985, shortly before changing their name to The Shamen, who went on to release 8 albums, conjuring a string of UK hits and scoring a US modern rock radio hit with "Move Any Mountian" ('91).
