On the downside I got rejected from a job application that I really wanted to go through, but on the upside I got to build a Lego New York City kit which was really cool. Haven't made one of those things in easily a decade at this point

I had some earlier and it held up really well! I was able to reduce the sugar in favor of pectin so it’s less overwhelmingly sweet than my last batch, but the texture is pretty solid!

The Minnesota flag redesign had me thinking about a potential redraft for my state - Michigan! I’m not good enough to design a coat of arms but as a base template inspired by the Double Loon’s old fashioned kingdoms style, here’s what I’m rolling with!

Base template for my hypothetical remake of the flag of Michigan. Three horizontal stripes - green, blue, and green, separated by thin white lines. On the left third is a shield in quarters of alternating green and blue, again framed and segmented in white. The green above and below represent the two Upper and Lower Peninsulas of the state, separated by the blue of the Great Lakes.

Special mention here though - I love the design and of the three finalists it's my favorite, but I will grant that it probably wouldn't be the best flag, particularly in the wind

Minnesota should've chosen the Double Loon IMO. Make every other state feel a combination of envy and fear all at once
One of the rejected options for the Minnesota state flag in its recent redesign campaign - a pastel blue flag featuring a double-headed loon on it, similar to designs from an old-school coat of arms. Behind the loon is a white and gold arch above, with white waves representing water below. Beneath it all is a gold and white banner with a star on either side and MINNESOTA in the middle.

Certified Gävlebocken moment
