Spain has become the first EU country to ratify the high seas treaty, which will provide protection for about half of the Earth’s surface.

For the treaty to come into effect, >60 countries need to ratify by June 2025.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has announced the creation of one of the world’s largest protected areas. 🌿

The reserve aims to protect 100,000 km² of forest and 60,000 km² of peatlands, including the UNESCO World Heritage site Okapi Reserve.
