Currently in Australia with family. Lots of things here seem
better than the UK, although the main thing is people’s attitude to life. I guess the sunshine helps!

What wonderful news about Nicole Campbell receiving an MBE! When I met her I realised that her heart and soul was dedicated to helping people with aphasia and I was truly honoured that she was the one who nominated me for the Robin Tavistock Award. She is a special lady.

Sixteen people came to our stroke and #aphasia Christmas lunch on Saturday and my brother donated £80 to enable us to buy everyone a gift. Never underestimate how stroke can affect income - every year we fund the lunch to give everyone a good time.

Poor #Devon trees today, Bert really got us. Luckily there are a few local tractors.

Reminded by Meta that it’s the anniversary of my stroke today. Some people celebrate it as a ‘Strokeaversary’, but I’m in the ‘rather forget it’ category.

I’m a moderator on one of the biggest FB groups for people affected by #aphasia - sometimes hard to moderate because PWA don’t always realise what’s appropriate, but I think it’s just indicative of them being desperate to be seen and understood. It tests the patience of some moderators, sadly.

So sad today to see a message from a person with aphasia in the USA who cannot afford rent and food and has broken spectacles. It’s hard enough getting help when you can communicate easily but almost impossible with a disability and no support.

A bit mad at my age to be nervous of seeing a new dentist today, but there it is.

Just thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Joanie and I live in Devon, I like to travel and am a keen walker, recently took up Nordic walking. I am a great advocate for people with stroke and aphasia, I’ve chaired a support group for almost 15 years since my daughter Sarah had a stroke at 18.

Do you know any adults with #DLD in the London area? Please share this research opportunity.

📊📈Graphs & graphics are not always user friendly. We want to improve them.

We need adults with DLD to help us.

The dara project is looking for adults (>18yrs) with #aphasia or developmental language disorder #DLD to take part research.

We are exploring how people with communication needs use visual information.

If you'd like to take part, we'd love to hear from you!

Back in the UK after a bit of travelling. Everything seems very dirty and miserable here, but I like it. Plus, familiar vegetables.

When you get a call that your Australian granddaughter has been bitten by a spider. She’s okay. Somehow the woolly bear I found in the wall today seems insignificant.
