Found Cucullia splendida(kaz. Жылтыр күләпаралы жалпылдақ) around Ladyzhenka! So silvery & striking. Wingspan ~28-34 mm. Larvae probably eat Artemisia. Night-flyer of dry grasslands and steppes!!!

Found so many individuals of A. barabensis in Korgalzhyn! It blends in with lichens like Parmelia vagans and steppe forbs. Its mottled wings and body help it vanish from predators

First time seeing Tamarix ramosissima(kaz. Қызылжыңғыл) in bloom!
📍Almaty Oblast, Konaev

This salt-tolerant shrub thrives in semi-desert zones, stabilizing soils and sheltering wildlife (a subtle beauty of Central Asia’s drylands)

This year I joined the PyroDiv project in the Kazakh steppe - 750,000 km² of grasslands, semi-deserts & wetlands.
Home to ≈800 plants, steppe eagles, jerboas & 10M migratory birds. Yet it’s one of Earth’s least protected zones, under threat from climate and land use.
