Of course, that isn't to say that I'm going to automatically think negatively of people who RP on Aether, nor do I inherently think better of anyone else.

Buuut it is kinda telling that a friend who still goes to that venue said it's been dead ever since mare died (which was just before the drama).

There are many good individual RPers on Aether. However, there are so many rotten apples there that I think it's best to just avoid that particular orchard altogether.

As a note, said friend is pretty connected in the RP community. Following an explanation of the incident and multiple people vouching for them, that venue has been de-listed from several venue registries. That's how bullshit this incident was.

Most of the people who work there are decent people who were not involved in this. But the leadership should NOT be trusted when it comes to matters of consent.

I'd recommend people not visit venues on Aether at all, but if you want to, at least get the name of this one from me and avoid it.

Oh, nevermind the fact that an IC breach of consent occurred when my friend ordered a drink without alcohol and the bartender served them something alcoholic anyway. That, too, was ignored.

I'll gladly provide further details to anyone who wants them, and I'll also gladly name names in private.

I was a sfw staff member there until my friend was banned for a "breach of consent" when there was zero communication of consent being breached. Said friend holds consent in the highest regard and respected when the accuser asked her to not interact. Even the alleged "breach" was dubious, at best.

And the needless drama? It's not worth writing out in bsky posts, but simply put: One venue (I won't name it publicly to avoid further drama) claims to care about consent, but willfully and blatantly overlooks breaches of consent committed by friends of the owner. I experienced that personally.

RE: RP on Aether: I'm tired as hell of the pervasive clique-iness of it all. I know that's an issue everywhere, but dear god it's so bad on Aether. I also ran into too many people who were overly dependent on Mare to communicate aspects of their character instead of just describing them in writing.

It makes sense for him and opens up some extra RP possibilities compared to "retired adventurer (LNC) who really doesn't want to deal with combat anymore and thus only has casual or business-related hooks." It shouldn't require changing too much of his backstory, either, which is nice.
