A syllabary is a writing system where each symbol stands for an entire syllable, like "ka" or "to." This differs from alphabets, which use symbols for single sounds.
In my opinion, the main advantage comes down to how consistently a writing system maps to a language's sounds. In languages like English, our alphabet often has inconsistent rules – think about how 'ough' sounds different in "through," "rough," and "bough."
