Due to a genetic mutation, Aurora's hair and eye color changes depending on her emotional state. Positive emotions are related to bright blue color, while negative ones are related to darker color. To be more specific, serotonin, dopamine and oxitocin hormones interact with her hair and eyes, temporarily changing their natural color to blue. She cannot consciously control this process. This mutation affects both the iris color, and hair color (every hair, from the head hair to even the tiny body hairs). The mutation interaction with her hair is more potent the closer it is to the skin, so her hair naturally has a slight color gradient from light to dark. Aurora's original hair color is black, and original eye color is very dark blue.

A bit of context about the "these won't last for very long" thing. Since Aurora has wind elemental powers, she can shift her body into her own element. The elemental powers can pretty much only change and reconstruct her own body and some specific clothing made with her own ADN, (think somethting like Mirio from MHA), so by the time she uses her powers to shapeshift, the piercings would just fall off and the pierced body part would instantly heal. She can of course just not use her powers, but she will eventually need to use them.
