A common grackle perched atop a rocky surface. This medium-sized bird has entirely black plumage, displaying iridescence that causes its feathers to appear metallic purple, green, or blue when light strikes them. A golden-cheeked warbler perched on a tree. This small bird has a deep yellow mustard-colored frontal mask and black plumage on its upper head, neck, and breast. Its belly is white, and its wings are covered in black and white feathers. Two royal terns perched on a beach, with several more terns out of focus. The birds are in their winter plumage, displaying a black crest on the back of their heads and black legs. Their bodies are white, except for their gray tails and wings.

A Red-bellied woodpecker sits on a tree. The bird is a male with a distinctive red plumage that goes from its upper beak to the back of its neck. The sides of its head and its belly and breast are gray, and its wings, back, and tail possess a characteristic black and white pattern. In its belly, there is a small red patch. A Cedar Waxwing sits on a branch under a blue sky. The bird is a male with a soft grayish-brown pattern on its body. Its feathers have such fine details that they seem like a plain, dense fur of hair. Its lower belly presents a yellowish tone. Its head presents a crest and a mask of black feathers that goes from its beak to the back of its eyes with white streaks below the mask in the beak area and below its eyes. The wings and lower back, as well as the tail, have a graphite tone with yellow at the top of the tail and black, white tips at the wings with a scarlet red detail in the last third of the wings. A Golden-Crowned Sparrow sits on a branch under a green canopy. The sparrow possesses a cream tone on its breast and a darker tone on its belly. The wings and back possess a pattern of brown, dark chocolate, and white feathers. Its head is crowned with a patch of yellow on top, surrounded by black feathers. The sides of its head possess a lighter gray tone.
