Maestro Zakir Hussain is still alive, alhamdulillah, but Indian media houses spread false news of his death. Wikipedia too had gone with it, but later amended.

Dec. 6, 2024 marks 32 years after the destruction of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, a dark day for India. And so I reshare this piece on more recent developments at the site, from late 2019:

caravanmagazine.in/religion/ayo... #Ayodhya #BabriMasjid #Hindutva #injustice
The Ayodhya verdict is a cornerstone of the Hindu Rashtra
The judgment does a poor job of grappling with historical evidence, often making assertions that echo broader Hindutva strategies for subverting history.

Shams ud-Din Iltutmish (1192 – 30 April 1236) was the third of the Mamluk kings who ruled the former Ghurid territories in northern India. He was the first Muslim sovereign to rule from Delhi, and is thus considered the effective founder of the Delhi Sultanate.

The second round of proofs came in for my India book. I’m thrilled to say that we came in at under 700 numbered pages!

Think that’s long? I’m narrating 5,000 years of history for 1/4 of the world’s population, with like 50 images and 25 maps. It’s damn succinct.
