you have to give the void effigy an offering before you can activate it and observe into its sort of pocket rift, and once activated you have to complete the angel's trial before being rewarded with memories, which are green flames that can be doused that contain loot lost throughout time

to dumb it down, it's essentially a system you can use to observe and interact with a greater ender being called the angel that's lingering between dimensions using a new spyglass-type item called the kaleidoscope, with the central source block that emits the 'observing space' being the void effigy

that's so real 😭 I feel the same way with my mod's kaleidoscope/void effigy mechanics
