A few weeks ago, @sycamore-collective.org - supported by @camri.bsky.social - brought some tech and tech-adjacent folks together for a Chatham House discussion about pro-democracy tech in the time of DOGE. We shared the read-out with attendees today
Attendees discussed the risks posed to UK central government, local and devolved government, and democracy and society of a DOGE-like approach to efficiency. Themes that emerged included: • Pro-democracy tech in the UK needs an easy-to-understand positive vision - one that isn't captured by Al accelerationism • Transparency of government systems is vital for accountability and we need to keep pressing for it • There's strength in numbers: technologists need to work more closely with other pro-democracy advocates across the UK and get involved in democratic initiatives on the ground If you'd like to collaborate on positive steps to achieving these three steps, the Sycamore Collective would love to hear from you.
