@maddow.bsky.social after more than 45 years of being a loyal, faithful fan of the Patriots, I'll be cheering for the Seahawks this year. Until the NE franchise changes ownership and/or denounces the current administration, they should have no fans. How can you support that team in today's world?

All because 9 people, who lost their effort to unionize at a similar business, came into the company.
Sorry, but that's messed up!
It shouldn't require a simple majority, especially in a newly opened location.
We didn't need a union.
They were simply new, bad hires.

Okay, I get it, you're a big union guy.
Do not put words in my mouth! I NEVER said I hated unions.
And just so we're perfectly clear, 9 newly hired people, in a company of 850, voted to unionize a 17 person department.
15 years, in a 20ish year old company, that was forced to show me the door. 1/2

When the company that I was working for expanded to a new location, it necessitated hiring a lot of new people to fill the jobs.
The new hires were the pro-union group. They had been in the company, most anyway, less than a year before starting to organize. So no, I HAD a voice before the union.

Nope, it's as crazy as it sounds! At the time there were three other locations, within the company, that had the same department, in the same state (i.e. same functionality and purpose). Basically, it was a group of people that tried to unionize at a local, different company, and lost. 1/2

FYI The long-term employees all voted against the union (the 8). What does that tell you? Again, one department of 17, in a 850 person company! What do you think they gained? (Hint: they actually lost in the end, 'cause nobody else in the company paid union dues every week!)

Nice take on it! Good to know that you think it's perfectly acceptable behavior to monopolize a situation, simply because you're new to the game and have a majority.

Some feel that unions inhibit "my right to have a voice at work...". I am one of them. I lost my job of 15 years when the department I worked for doubled in size due to company growth and the new hires were strongly pro-union. 17 people in a company with 850, and the vote was 9-8. I wouldn't sign.
