this is an elden ring theory that I wrote up before the dlc was released and I wanted to share it here too. this was really fun to write :3
I also find it amusing how I ended up focusing on things that were never really definitively answered in the dlc lol (that I know of, anyway)

yes, now that you mention it, he was previously imprisoned by mandos! I had to go back and look more and it happens in chapter 3 "of the coming of the elves and the captivity of melkor"

in chapter 7 "of the silmarils and the unrest of the noldor"! here's the page it's on specifically. fëanor was just banished by mandos on the previous page for his role in exacerbating unrest among the noldor but other than that I forget additional context of what was happening before that
