I’ve decided to follow the re-reading The Hobbit (and an aborted 2/3 of the Silmarillion) with The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s a comfort read, but heavens, I’d forgotten what a prig Tolkien is in his foreword and prologue!

Just finished Down Cemetery Road. Excellent. You don’t see too many meaty roles for older women, and Emma Thompson is excellent in this

It seems that my back yard has lots of over-wintering bright green caterpillars. I haven't seen them close up to identify but I've seen the robins come and pull them out of the ground. Not clearing away vegetation at the end of summer brings this little winter joy to my yard.
