I'll share around! If no one else is able to I can try, but PayPal has repeatedly frozen my attempts to send funds to Palestinian friends & family (it sends eventually but usually with a delay, which is so so hard when it's a matter of life and death) so I'm probably not the best person to do it.

I find it a little funny that I made a post saying “I am a scholar of this, I understand intellectually, I just find it emotionally baffling” and people keep responding like I don’t understand intellectually.
But it *does* make sense—these power-hungry men are very very good at amassing more power!

Agreed — if anything I think it’s dangerous to assume they don’t understand exactly what they’re doing (or to project mental illness and personality order onto them), because it lets us underestimate just how calculating and effective they are

It’s a strange thing to both be a deep scholar of history and human rights and also a human being who assumes most people have basic compassion, because the scholar in me goes “ah, yes, the same old bullshit we’ve seen 400 times” and the human being goes ”but HOW???”

Yes, that's my point: colonizers get so addicted to starving the world that they turn around and starve their own, while telling a (false) story about how their people aren't actually their own. You don't stop being part of the nation just because you're poor, you just stop being protected by it.

We're both wrong, then, yay :D
English people are both British and European (the continent of Europe is both bigger and older than the European Union!) but I specified English rather than British because I didn't think a Scottish person would say that :)

I am going to hope you are European (English is my first guess?) so as to explain that assumption, if you are Canadian I will be hurt 😂
Pretty sure I got my strong love of guzzling pickled things from the Indian side of my family, though the Palestinians have also been known to mainline pickles.

*I* would eat that many capers (but no I don't think they'd serve that many capers at a restaurant)

doesn't mean you can't be struck by lightning tomorrow, it means there are laws and structures in place to protect you from e.g. war crimes, natural disasters, preventable workplace injuries, etc.
But I understand why that language can be confusing outside of policy spaces, thanks for noting that!
