This is all great news of course, but we have questions. What's driving the decrease in bookings? Are magistrate judges more reluctant to impose cash bail? Are fewer probationers being reincarcerated for technical violations?

The ACJ dashboard is showing that bookings have plunged for the second month in a row, from 805 in October to 658 in November all the way down to 595 in December. tableau.alleghenycounty.us/t/PublicSite...

Similar problem in Pittsburgh, although local officials are far more reticent about it. There seems to be an unacknowledged tug of war between city cops trying to fill up the jail and county courts trying to limit the prisoner population to save money. 412swineflu.noblogs.org/post/2025/12...
