It's pretty much just a metal can full of bags of poop. A visual inspection is all they need to decide. You don't need to spend the money outfitting it with sensors and integrating it with the ISS telemetry system so ground controllers know whether to ask the crew to change the poop can.

They don't recycle the poop and there's no telemetry on it
