4 Women I really miss.

🌱 #bloomscrolling ... and suddenly, it was autumn. And as every year, our night jasmine didn't get the message and keeps pushing out its fragrant little trumpets, as if the night temperatures wouldn't drop dangerously any day now.

🌱 #bloomscrolling For some reason, most of my current #FlowersonFriday happen to be pink - except the Rudbeckias I showed on Sunday, of course.

#RoseWednesday 🌱 #BloomScrolling Since my roses are on a break, I'm sharing roses on my way to work again - no idea which varieties these are, but seeing them all the time makes commuting 40 minutes 4 days a week so much more pleasant.

🌱 #Bloomscrolling #SundayYellow Yellow Rudbeckias are currently dominating my little balcony. Which wasn't planned. They're from the "Sahara" mix & were supposed to be caramel & cinnamon coloured. Oh well. They do add a bit of oomph to the more subtle yellows I intentionally grow.

If you see this, repost with a vampire that is not Dracula

🌱 #RoseWednesday #bloomscrolling #FlowerReport Bathsheba is back - still non-fragrant, still not keen on climbing, still quick to wilt. Nevertheless, she bothered to show up again! Meanwhile, #OldRose Jacques Cartier is preparing for his 3rd bloom, which has never happened before. Can't wait!

🌱 #BloomScrolling For #PrettyPurpleThursday I'm sharing an unexpected guest on my balcony: "Mr. P" - self-sown. I was actually going for a different Sweet Pea colour range this year. Nevertheless: Besides the stunning pattern he has a great fragrance, long stems and is an overall prolific bloomer.

#RoseWednesday 🌱 #BloomScrolling Not my rose, so no idea which variety. But I've been walking by it on my way to work for over four weeks now and it still doesn't show any signs of slowing down. So it's a nice ersatz for my own Bathsheba, which just can't be bothered.

🌱 🦋 #bloomscrolling #sweetpeas #butterflies #gardening Summer is in full swing on the little balcony. Roses and most of the sweet peas are finished - but there are still a lot of plants which are just starting off.

🌱 #Bloomscrolling #OldRoses #FlowerReport Jacques Cartier is back for the summer, so I have yet another #RoseWednesday! The 2nd blooming phase is not quite so exuberant (there are only about half as many buds as in early May) but it lasts longer, usually from the mid June until mid July.

🌱 #RoseWednesday #Bloomscrolling This is "Bathsheba" in her opening and wilting stages. I'm not entirely happy with this one - it doesn't really have a climbing habit & hardly any fragrance. But it does fill the rose gap on my balcony until Jacques Cartier starts his 2nd blooming phase in July.

Perspective. It's a bit bigger than ordinary field poppies but nowhere near the orientals.

#BloomScrolling #FlowerReport My favourite Shirley poppy of the day is bringing pleated skirts back. 🌱

🌱 #Bloomscrolling #sweetpeas #FlowersOnFriday This Friday's 4 are all self-sown (yes, the Sweet Peas too - I'm always behind with cutting): Sweet pea "Balmoral", a descendant of the "Touch of Buff" Calendula mix, Shirley Poppy, probably an offspring of "Pandora", and "Mr. P".

🌱 #bloomscrolling Evening primroses & their daytime cousin "Sunset Boulevard" are in their prime right now. Both are what I call "glamorous wilters"- they start out in citrus-y yellow and coppery orange & then fade through the whole range of apricot/peachy + warm red shades. Both are self-sown.

🌱 #BloomScrolling #roses Rose "Frühlingszauber" (Spring Magic), Kordes 1941.
May 9, 2025 at 7:39 PM
🌱 #BloomScrolling #FridayPurple #Irises These are Irises florentina "Coerulea" plus "Black Hawk", a classic variety from Schreiner (1941)🧵3/4

🌱 #roses #rosahugonis Serious rose envy! This shrub of Rosa hugonis is probably bigger than my whole balcony. Gorgeous old plant, very popular with pollinators. 🧵2/4

🌱 #BloomScrolling #FridayPurple #Irises Popped up to Potsdam yesterday to take a walk on the Freundschaftsinsel - gorgeous place to visit for (historic) Iris lovers in May. Iris-wise there was not so much going on yet, but I enjoyed plenty of other interesting plants & combinations (IDs in Alt)🧵1/4

🌱 #Bloomscrolling #FlowerReport The first carnation opened yesterday, Dianthus lumnitzeri "Tatra Fragrance". Although the blossom is tiny & delicate, it manages to perfume the air all around it. Pic2 was actually taken in 2019, I just added it to show the variety of blossoms this wildflower produces

🌱 #Bloomscrolling #OldRoses #FlowerReport ... and he didn't disappoint! This is Jacques Cartier. Who has apparently forgiven a rather brutal repotting and cutting back in February: the little shrub is full of buds right now.
May 8, 2025 at 6:10 AM
🌱 #Bloomscrolling #OldRoses #FlowerReport Can't wait to come back home from work later, because I know Monsieur Jacques will be welcoming me with open blossoms for my very first #RoseWednesday this year !

🌱 #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling "10 Week Stocks" are lying liars, everyone: these (pics 1-3) have been sown in February '24. Which is a bit longer than 10 weeks ago! Anyways, nice summer fragrance since the beginning of April on my balcony - can't complain. Last pic is not a stock (details in alt).
