that's the only thing i can take away from this trend. they want us to buy our way into cozy familiar ignorance at a time when so many americans just want food. it's shockingly tone deaf, at least on mariah's part. but if it turns out the ralph lauren trend is just as rotten, don't be surprised.

it's exactly as tasteless as the mariah carey sephora ad, all these brands trying to stifle class consciousness and dissent with "look, it's christmas! you all love christmas. let's make it extra nostalgic this year for reactionary appeal"

and as i've said before, the main failure of capitalism is that it promises infinite growth with finite resources. it can't be done. it will crash one day and if we don't have an alternative, the results will be catastrophic.

it's not sustainable! that's the main thing. whether it's evil to exploit workers or not is immaterial. it is shit like this that will burn up our atmospheres and choke our oceans and decimate the land stolen from its custodians.

i see videos with thousands of dollars of product being proudly displayed, and i can't help but think about the millions of hands that came together to make these items made only to momentarily sate your gluttony before being unceremoniously dumped
