#Birds #BlueSkyArtShow #Small One of my nemesis birds is the Golden Crowned Kinglet; tiny, adorable and NEVER sits still....unless sitting in the deepest of shadows with a branch in front of it's face.
A small round greenish coloured bird with a white 'eyebrow' small black beak, black strip on the top of it's head with just a hint of it's yellow crown showing. It is perched on a grey branch 3/4 profile against a background of light green.

Friday's #flyday subject is a Rufous Hummingbird female, taken last summer in my backyard.
A hummingbird with it's outstretched wings backlit by the sun, has her bill poked into a bright red cluster of flowers (Lychnis chalcedonica) against a background of greens and shadows.

Friday's #BirdOfTheDay #Singing 😉 is this young female Hooded Merganser.
A brown headed bird with it's bill wide open, is resting on water coloured a light minty green colour. She has a brown eye and the feathers on her back are a dark brown, and black with a white center stripe.

It's another frosty -5C (23F) this morning. Really hoping for some sun before the forecasted winds blow in.

For my #BirdOfTheDay #wader, I give you the diminutive Least Sandpiper. I love the patterning on it's back.

A -5C frosty morning. The sun came out for all of 12 minutes and provided this moment's worth of warmth and colour.

The Townsend's Solitaire for #BirdOfTheDay #shadesofgrey. This quiet bird is tougher than it looks. Along the river they stake out territories that include a suitable number of prostrate Junipers. The berries are what sustains them through the winter months....as long as the snow isn't too deep.

Breast feathers a much lighter grey and slightly fluffed.

Right now it is so foggy I can barely see 2 houses away from mine. It doesn't look like it will lift any time soon. So, here is a #fireweed flower with a fly for Friday.

A male Northern Shoveler duck having a good stretch for #BirdOfTheDay #DucksOutOfWater.
A duck is standing with 1 orange leg on a grey rock in dappled green, still water. Managed to find, a very few mushrooms/fungi, hiding in sheltered spots in the undergrowth. The past several days of rain and overcast skies kept the temperature from dropping below freezing several nights in a row.
A light orange mushroom on the forest floor surrounded by twigs and spruce needles. The mushroom is backlit by the sun, showing clearly the gills on the underside of the cap. The underside of a Cat's Tongue (Pseudohydnum gelatinosum ?) mushroom, poking out of sphagnum moss and Reindeer lichen.

2021 Late summer, early fall, this young Loon hung around for a couple of weeks. Fairly successful fishing from what I could see.

A juvenile loon swimming in rippled blue grey waters, it's back towards the camera, it is facing into the sun. A juvenile Loon on grey coloured water has reared up out of the water.

For my #BirdOfTheDay, I give you a Mallard hen escorting her ducklings across the mud for #BirdsStandingOnSomething. She was escorting a brood of 5, hustling them along while keeping an eye on me. They were headed for a back channel in the rushes, one of the ducklings was quite far ahead.

An Upland Sandpiper for #BirdOfTheDay, this is my only shot, which I almost missed. I didn't know, until it stepped out of the grass & I saw the long legs, that it was something different. Definitely my #least photographed bird. Sightings in my area are quite rare.
