This photo of Naotaka Yokokawa throwing a pitch is a great example of a relatively poor reference if you're going 1:1 with it - Good for motion, bad for direct anatomy. You'd need to have the knowledge base to rework this into something that doesn't read as awkwardly as it does in the photo.

Not weird at all, no worries, no worries. I struggled for a very long time to write in a straight line, so this is very sweet lol thank you Firstly, I think it's important to acknowledge that I grew up and went to school before laptops and tablets were common in classrooms. I had to write all my notes, test answers, and in-class essays on paper, by hand, and my teachers loved giving us essay questions printed on the tops of blank, white sheets of paper without any lines. Like, I cannot lie to you, I do think that's given me an advantage. It's given me a permanent callus on my middle finger too, but hey, that's my pen pillow. So, obviously, like with most things, practice is important, but in the shorter term, I'd recommend a few things. Slow down. I naturally write at a slant, so stopping and taking care as I write helps me to counteract this. If you're really poring over my sketchbook, you can see where I'm loose and fast about it because even my words will start to tilt and visually slur together. If you went too fast, take a breath, erase it, and try again. Pay attention to your letters. If your letters are all starting on different baselines, your words will look wavy and then, so too, will your lines. If your letters are slanted, then your words will look slanted and so on. The part is significant to the whole here. I changed up how I wrote lowercase a's recently for fun. There's never anything wrong with taking some time to practice just writing letters." It continues, but BSKY's character limit prevents me from continuing. The second half of the response. It begins, "Use a guide! If you're writing traditionally, then pull out a ruler or another piece of paper and use that as your guideline. If you're writing digitally, you can still use a ruler (on an ipad, the material will be important, as a certain degree of heat/warmth might register as your fingers - just be mindful of this. An unbacked metal ruler might also scratch your screen or screen protector.). If you have access to a window or lightbox you can also pop a piece of ruled paper behind whatever you're writing on to give yourself lines without having to make any marks - good for cards, letters on decorative stock, etc. If I'm going to be writing a giant chunk of text digitally, I'll slap down a set of ruled lines on one layer, and write above them on another layer. I don't do this so much in my sketchbook because it's a sketchbook and I don't want to fixate on the text to that degree, but when I was taking notes in lectures or studio, I'd do this. I made a quick n dirty ruled lines procreate brush for myself that I'll share here. It's free. Go wild. It orients to your canvas direction. If you want to play with the size of the spacing, just go to Grain > Scale. It's 8% by default, but you can get much tighter or wider lines depending on how you swing it. With all that said, if you're still struggling or have struggled with this for a long time, you might want to look into Dysgraphia. I'm not a medical professional obvs but it seems something that's regularly overlooked and underdiagnosed. I hope this is any measure of helpful!"
