They started with a bit of an injury crisis in midfield, so he was forced into a starting role maybe earlier than anticipated. But he found his legs after a couple of rough outings and was a regular while everyone arrived and got healthy. Still lots to improve, but what a season it's been for him.

It hasn't seemed nearly as functional without Franco. Without him, they've given up two goals in each of the last two games.

Sure, I'm on board with the Franco logic, I think it's a fine move. As I understand--correct if i'm wrong--you're saying that players in these leagues are choosing MLS more & that's a sign of growth in how the league is perceived. I'm just saying I think Fitz likely has better options than Franco.

For sure, I don't disagree with the idea that he can improve, but I think with Guti we tend to focus on all the ways that he hasn't progressed and miss the simple joy of a homegrown kid smashing home a comeback winner from range.

For me, that’s not a concern yet. I would prefer he take that approach at this point, but might not prefer it once we’re farther into the long haul.
