We are sad to say goodbye to our Communications and Advocacy manager, Linda Kavanagh, who has been with SWAI for 7 years.

We're continuing to highlight the work of SWAI. In April 2023, Geila Ibram, a sex worker in Limerick, was murdered.

Along with other sex worker organisations, we held a vigil outside the Department of Justice to highlight the lack of concern about sx workers' safety in Ireland.

We are so delighted to see Catherine Connolly elected! She has consistently advocated for the health and safety of sex workers in Ireland during her time in the Dáil. While we will miss her as a TD, we know she will be a president for all on the island, especially the most marginalised.

The @eswa-network.bsky.social report concluded that Europe-wide, sex workers face barriers to reporting violence against them, they are denied paths to justice and how the lack of safe working spaces increases the risk of being a victim of a crime.

We're continuing to celebrate the work of SWAI over the years. In 2019 we launched our #DecrimForSafety and #SupportSafeSexWork hashtags to highlight the need for laws and policies that keep sex workers safe.

We all deserve to feel safe in our jobs.

📅 Today is World Contraception Day.

Ireland is hypocritical when it comes to contraception. On the one hand, it funds organisations to give out free condoms, and on the other, it allows Gardaí to use condoms as evidence that sex work has occurred.

We're continuing to highlight SWAI's work. In 2016, we created a social media campaign to do what the government doesn't: to allow sex workers to speak for themselves.

We're continuing to highlight SWAI's work. For every election cycle, we create a candidate checklist with suggested questions to ensure that politicians know that the rights of sx workers are important to voters.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Stigma against sex workers, combined with criminalisation, negatively impacts their mental health.
September 10, 2025 at 12:03 PM
Today, we want to continue highlighting SWAI's work.

As part of our meet-ups, we held a BDSM workshop to upskill sex workers into new areas of work.

Due to our laws and grinding stigma, sex workers are isolated which has a detrimental effect on their mental health.

Today, we want to continue highlighting SWAI's work. On December 17th, we marked the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. We called for an end to violence against sex workers, including state and police violence and demanded the decriminalisation of sex work.
August 27, 2025 at 12:15 PM
Today we want to continue highlighting the work that SWAI does.

The pandemic was revealing, with extreme urgency, how sex workers are forced to operate on the margins, in precarious circumstances, without the protections enjoyed by other workers.

Sex workers, please note: you do NOT have to answer Garda questions about your landlord. We have received legal advice about this.

Knowledge is power and it is our role to ensure that sex workers in Ireland know their rights.

"If you care about healthcare, if you care about housing, if you care about disability rights, you must care about sex workers rights"

Today we want to highlight the work that SWAI does. We have delivered our Sex Worker Awareness Training around the country to many types of organisations. We have received amazing feedback and 100% of our participants would recommend our training to others. We're really proud of this work!
August 4, 2025 at 12:05 PM
Today is World Day against Trafficking in Persons. We want to highlight that global several organisations fighting against human trafficking support the decriminalisation of sex work as the most effective strategy.

This week we gave our Sex Worker Awareness Training to the Amach LGBT centre in Galway. If anyone is interested in getting our training while we’re still open, email outreach@swai.eu asap.

The Sex Workers Alliance Ireland (SWAI) is in immediate danger of closing due to lack of funding.

SWAI is running on fumes at the moment. Thanks to your support and the generous donors to our crowdfund, we have been able to continue operating until now.

Housing is a sex work issue. Many outdoor workers, considered to be some of the most vulnerable sex workers, are homeless. Our laws mean that sex workers can be evicted & some sex workers have been evicted after Gardaí report them to their landlords.

Last night, we attended the Women's 24-hour Vigil outside the Dáil. We joined Galway legend Margaretta D'Arcy, Raging Grannies, Red Umbrella Éireann, Street Workers Collective of Ireland, and Global Women's Strike.

Ireland needs to invest in care, not in military spending!

Today is International Whore's Day. 50 years ago today, sx workers in Lyon, France, occupied a church to protest their criminalisation. This act kicked off the modern sx workers' rights movement in Europe and the UK.
