He is so proud to be Russian that he can't be bothered to learn to speak or understand the Russian language.

The problem is that many member states never got a special deal themselves. It would be seen as rewarding the UK for leaving and the member states that never got a special deal will demand one. At that point it's easier to give no one a special deal than to give every EU member state a special deal.

And yet the US is constantly telling the EU that it's not allowed to protect it's citizens and interests against things like tech companies or climate change because they go against American interests.

What US support? With the exceptions of intelligence sharing he stopped all aid to Ukraine months ago. He's a lame duck at home and abroad. He wants a deal but has not realised yet that his position to make/force a deal is much weaker than it was the last time he threatened to stop US support/aid.

Trump lost all leverage over Ukraine when he stopped all aid to Ukraine. Europe is now footing the bill for all the aid which means Trump can't force Ukraine do what he wants as long as Europe has Ukraine's back. Trump's position as "peace" negotiator is much weaker this time around.
November 21, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Trump already stopped all aid to Ukraine so with the exception of intelligence sharing it's an empty threat. Europe is now footing the bill for all aid which means Europe is the deciding factor. Trump can't make Ukraine do what it doesn't want to do as long as Europe has Ukraine's back.
November 21, 2025 at 2:47 PM
It doesn't matter what they want because without these Europeans that they don't care about they can't force Ukraine to do anything that it does not want to do. By stopping all aid Trump gave away all leverage he had over Ukraine to these same Europeans who are now footing the bill for all aid.

A door swings both ways. The more he brings this up the more European taxpayers will see parallels between what he says and what they already know about their tax money disappearing in his corrupt pockets. Sooner or later the public will start asking these same questions about him and Hungary.

The Netherlands has overseas territory just off the coast of Venezuela of which some of them happen to house US bases. If anything happens it will draw in the Netherlands and possibly other European countries that have interests or overseas territory in that part of the world like France and the UK.
November 15, 2025 at 4:23 PM
The UK is just the latest that we know about. The Netherlands publicly admitted to having restricted their intelligence sharing with the US last month. I suspect that they are just the tip of the iceberg & that most European countries & other US allies have restricted what they are sharing as well.

Sticking to geographic borders as a requirement to join is a foolish mistake. Division and seperation means getting picked off one by one. The EU should stick to it's motto of United in Diversity and turn that in to a strength by inviting democratic allies across the world to join. Evolve or die.

Neutrality in this day and age means that you're their next victim when they're done with their enemies. If they're on Austria's borders then that means that they have beaten NATO and that Austria is next when they're done with NATO. Same situation applies to Ireland.

Trump: Americans don't want to buy cars that are made in Canada.

Also Trump: Complains that Europeans are not buying American made cars.

The lesson for Europe then is that in case of war with Russia that Canada will be playing a vital role because it would be much harder for Russia to disrupt military production in Canada.

He doesn't care which is why this is happening and why it will become a daily occurrence. Europe is on it's own.
September 13, 2025 at 4:20 PM
To be very honest it has been fairly obvious for a while now that any major war will be a production and logistics war. Refusing to invest in long range capabilities to take things like factories, refineries and logistical infrastructure out will cost us dearly.
September 13, 2025 at 4:00 PM
Then what is the point of having US troops stationed in Europe? We're now in the situation where it is plainly obvious that Trump will never help us if push comes to shove and where the US troops stationed in Europe won't do anything because they're afraid of him.

Honestly I'm more surprised that something like this hasn't happened yet. The moment Ukraine & Russia started using drones like this it was only a matter of time before someone copied it for a terrorist attack. Especially after the media coverage of Ukraine's container drone attacks inside of Russia

I think that it's more the case of him knowing better than Orban when to pick a fight and when not to. Pissing off the EU & all but one member state (Hungary) over Ukraine and risk losing EU money over it is simply not worth it. Better to pick a fight over something that really matters to Slovakia.
September 6, 2025 at 4:22 PM
It is existential though. Both the EU & NATO have a defense pact. If member states refuse to help Denmark if the US invades Greenland then the EU/NATO will fall apart. Both organisations are build upon the trust that allies will help. There is no point in being in either if everyone refuses to help.
August 27, 2025 at 12:47 PM
The US invoked NATO's article 5 and we honored the request. We went to Iraq and Afghanistan for the US. We bled and died there for the US. So from a European perspective the US is ungrateful for our sacrifices.

Ofcoure what Lavrov conveniently leaves out is that North Korean troops in Ukraine is already a foreign military intervention on Russia's behave. One rule for me and another for you.

Rich coming from him considering he never behaves when he is here in Europe.

To play the devil's advocate, by stringing Trump along they're also preventing him from lifting sanctions which he has been wanting to do for a while now. By keeping those sanctions in place the Russian economy continues to overheat and the war becomes more and more unsustainable over time for them.
August 20, 2025 at 2:06 PM
I suspect that they're stringing Trump along to prevent him from lifting sanctions. Russia's economy is overheating and most likely can only sustain the war for another one to one and a half years.
