This year I have a bit different schedule, our school got Cambridge accreditation and I follow IGCSE Syllabus www.cambridgeinternational.org/programmes-a... , I teach 5 to 9 grades 15 hours a week + I have Computer club for primary school students as extracurricular activity.

Regarding image processing in 5/6 grade I introduce concepts of raster/vector graphics and show how manipulate images using GIMP, stressing on difference between proprietary and open source software. In 7/8 grades on Web Design we experiment with SVG format in browser. #ict #image_processing

In 5 grade after introduction to binary system I teach about encoding, starting from ASCII and leading to Unicode emphasizing importance of UTF for international communication. Explaining emojis as symbols and then gradually coming to image encoding, as example showing base64. #ict #encoding #utf

Sometimes I substitute other teachers for their class, I try to do cross-ICT-lesson then. At recent Science class students asked me to watch memes on youtube :) sure I've refused, but I decided to make lesson about Meme term, so we talked about genes, Richard Dawkins, replication, mutation etc. #ict

I start to introduce encryption as a concept in grade 4 with Caesar cipher and continue in grade 5 with ROT-13 and frequency analysis making cultural references to Poe's The Gold-Bug and Doyle's "The Adventure of the Dancing Men", giving them stories as homework to read. #teaching #ict #cryptography

For 6 grade I've made several lessons on critical thinking and rationality. We been solving several logical puzzles on various platforms and talking about fake news and fact checking tools. I think it is important in Information Age to teach children how to deal with information. #teaching #ict

From 5-th grade I teach about encoding, like bits and bytes to numbers and to characters. For international school I feel particularly important to teach about Unicode in comparison with ASCII for example. Unicode is perfect example of how technology impact international communication. #ict #utf

Today with 2 grades I've tried combining 2 tools in order to tech them... well many things reading, drawing using computer input devices, typing and translating words. So used we Quick, Draw! and Google Translate. It's especially useful with for international schools. #teaching #ICT

For grade [1..4] I often give logic puzzle as brain teasers. And in grade 5 I begin proper introduction to Logic and its relation with computers. I've found interesting puzzle named Boolean Box booleangame.com and for Logic Circuits - OS engine called logijs.com

For pas 2 week with 2 grade I made small introduction into Semiotics, mixing it with digital art. Explaining what is a signs and ask students to type&draw some typographical symbols. Later asking them to draw more complex signs and discussing it. How do you explain save icon 💾 to youngsters? #ict

When it comes to lessons organization I prefer MD files and Obsidian, notes placed in directories on my FS, it can be uploaded to any cloud services or transferred to any OS. I prepare lessons on my MacBook and display on projector connected to a Windows machine . #teaching #ICT #markdown

With [1,2] grades I use typingclub.com to introduce typing. Another approach that helps to learn special symbols is #ascii_art it requires only text editor any OS has it. Along with special symbols students improve their spatial skills and navigation with arrows, space and enter keys.

In ICT lab we have about 10 desktops and 8 laptops with Windows and Linux. It gives students a different perspective on hardware and software. Sometimes students complain over touchpad vs mouse or Windows vs Xfce, but I prepare lessons in such way so they can do it on any computer. #teaching #ICT

I teach ICT in GAHS since Sep 2023. I've started with grades [1..6] with ICT class, and [7,8] with Web Design and in I was asked to tech [9..11] as well with Programming with Python class. Despite different class names it is ICT all the way. In total I teach about 250 students #teaching #ICT #EduSky
