French onion soup stage one - DENIAL.

After 18 months, various challenging life events, multiple unprovoked pulmonary emboli, and one detached retina, I am officially DONE WITH GRAD SCHOOL.

Day four post-vitrectomy for retinal detachment and my 16-year-old made me lunch...he was worried I wasn't eating enough. ♥️
A turquoise dinner plate with a ring of overlapping salami slices around the outer edge, topped with a ring of small pieces of white cheddar cheese. Inside that ring is an overlapping ring of round crackers, with a pile of cherry tomatoes in the middle. The entire plate is covered with food. There is a small dish of garlic and olive spread off to the side. The plate is esthetically pleasing, possibly especially for autistic folks.

Oh no, my wonder is not "childlike". My whimsy is old. My frivolity is steeped in ancient wisdom. My silliness is battle-worn. My awe at the world has been long forged through trial and tribulation. I have earned this wonderment. I have protected it for decades against a society that tells me constantly that it should not belong to me. I was born with wonder, and I have carried it, against all odds, with me through adulthood. It is not childlike. By now it is older than me.

Tumblr user wundergeek: For folks in more "liberal" areas who haven't previously encountered bigoted graffiti, let's talk about what to do when that happens. (Because you can't assume that "someone" will do something. "Someone" has to be you.) First, be prepared. Keep some large stickers and a wide tip sharpie in your bag / jacket / car. If you encounter hate graffiti (most likely a swastika or short slogan) that has been markered onto a surface like a bathroom stall, for example a swastika or slogan, use the sharpie to render it illegible. Don't get fancy, get it done quick and move on. You may also encounter hate flyers or stickers on the backs of signs. This is where the stickers come in handy. Again the goal is to cover the bigotry quickly and move on. (This is a "fly casual" situation, so make sure you keep your cool. ) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE HATE FLYERS OR STICKERS WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. Sometimes, razor blades may be hidden behind to injure anyone trying to remove the sticker/ flyer. Not often, but often enough that you shouldn't fuck around, lest you find out. I also do not recommend using a credit card to try to scrape the sticker off. Not because it's unsafe, but because it's very easy to snap your card in half that way. Take action, but stay safe.

Absolutely. I've given myself "permission" to order chicken strips and fries at the bar-and-grill when I'm feeling disregulated...or even if I just want them.
