What's happening:
• Talon Ridge Middle (Thornton) — delayed one year, saving $12M
• Rocky Vista High (Commerce City) — on schedule for fall 2027

Both will trigger boundary changes for ALL 27J middle and high schools.

Asbestos spill closes Lakewood Library for two months
Asbestos contamination forced a two-month shutdown of administrative offices at Lakewood Library after untrained workers removed contaminated flooring.

The sign on the door says "construction." The website says "restroom renovations."

No mention of asbestos.

The library says it emailed affected patrons. It's offering Workers Comp help to staff who entered the contaminated area.

The cleanup has expanded 6x — from 400 sq ft to 2,600+ sq ft.

State permit: "The sheet vinyl flooring was removed from the scope of work and was not removed by AmeriForce."

AmeriForce was the certified abatement contractor.

The state health department can monitor but can't force a cleanup deadline.
