What's happening:
• Talon Ridge Middle (Thornton) — delayed one year, saving $12M
• Rocky Vista High (Commerce City) — on schedule for fall 2027

Both will trigger boundary changes for ALL 27J middle and high schools.

Superintendent Will Pierce: "This is either this incredibly wicked problem or it's an opportunity to design our future."

The tradeoff: Students will have to move from existing schools to fill new ones.

5/ Board president Lori Goldstein put it bluntly: "The governor says he's increasing per-pupil funding. But we're declining enrollment. Call it what it is — we're not increasing education funding."

4/ One proposed cut: reducing READ Act screenings to every other year. In Adams 12, 24.4% of K-3 students — more than 2,200 kids — qualified for reading intervention last year.

3/ But lobbyists told the board that the state is staring down an $840M–$1B shortfall. The governor's plan to protect schools depends on legislation that may not pass.

2/ The $39M mill levy was supposed to fund teacher raises, mental health workers, smaller classes, and CTE programs.

The contractor, TCC Corporation, didn't respond to a request for comment.
