This sounds so good - what a shame there's no virtual attendance. I love Frances Hardinge's books, especially Cuckoo Song (I was so looking forward to the series that never got made), and I discovered the marvellous Rhiannon Lassiter through her too.

That's so lovely. I too was obsessed with them. I once emailed Stephen and he replied, which was amazing. Yesterday my daughter met him at the theatre - a second generation fan - I'm so proud!

And why is she so patronising towards her northern constituents?

I can't stop reading books about them. They are my favourite subject. Perhaps I just like getting cross. The queen mother kept five staffed houses. Five!

My next door neighbour in the noughties used to stick "Xena" on the back of his car where the brand would normally be. He made it out of the X from Xantia and the ENA from Renault. I liked him so much for this.

Odd to think that when I took my children to platform 9 3/4 in the noughties, when it was still a luggage trolley in the wall between platform 9 and 10, it was really quiet. This was in the height of the books and films coming out. There was hardly any merch to buy in those days either.

Good to be able to have a happy medium though. I spent my thirties (in 2000s) staying at home caring for my children, as did lots of other mothers in our village. I think it was a lot less stressful for us, and we played a lot of tennis. Then everyone went back to work in their forties.
