I spent weeks piecing together what public officials knew and when for that story. And here it all was in this 150 page booklet that California’s attorneys sat on for going on two years since my initial request.

They knew it was a risk, they just didn’t care.

This house in the Palisades is the only survivor for four blocks.

It was last sold in 1979, and it doesn't look like it was updated much if at all since then.

Next door was a stucco home with a tile roof, which I've seen some outlets erroneously refer to as "fireproof."
