Yeah, that seems a plausible scenario. Paul is also doing some strange things with time, esp. in 1 Cor 7 (time is drawn together, live as not…). I’m mostly driven by a fascination for similar time-related ambiguity in John. Looking forward to reading your book when it’s out - and snippets for now!

I did briefly reference your 2025 article btw on the ‘Last Day’ in John. Thanks for that! Do you understand Paul’s apocalyptic vocabulary in a similar metaphorical vein or is that not the direction your comparative approach takes?

Yes, definitely! Breaking down these silos is part of why I presented my paper on John in a more general session on eschatology in Uppsala last week (the other part is that as it is a rather new niche to me, I wasn’t totally convinced it could stand the test of a Johannine literature session…).

Wonderful news! And as I am just ‘transferring’ from Paul to John in my research, I am very curious how you develop this particular argument.

Likewise!

I will be at SBLi/EABS Uppsala next week, together with five of my colleagues from PThU Utrecht. If we succeed in our roadtrip through Germany and Denmark this weekend…

Ah, fellow-Amersfoorter are you? Either I did’t know or I forgot… Perhaps we’ll meet in the trains to Utrecht as well as under these blue skies then!
