Spanktown, New Johnson.

I’ll have to tell M. Our family name for that state is “New Johnson” because we were once looking for out of state license plates on a road trip and 8-year-old M panicked and blurted it out instead of New Jersey.

I just saw it today, too (Mother’s day treat). The masquerade in the transcendent blues time-continuum dance scene made me think of your Akata Witch books. Looking forward to your thoughts!

It’s so true! All season of the year are nice for eating chicken soup with rice (apologies to my vegetarian daughter). Thanks for bringing this up!

My sweet Tombo also passed this year. I miss him so much and grieve with you for the loss of your Kirby.

I suppose that they are trying to use the gross scrap bits plus synthetic emulsifiers to make the mushroom equivalent of chicken nuggets or tater tots?

Ah, you are wonderful! I’ve added a lot from the suggestions already made. Still, I’ll throw my hat in the ring: The Witch & the Tsar by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore+The Heaven and Earth Grocery store by James McBride are recent favorites. (Also having nostalgia for Ben Aaronovich’s Rivers of London)
