In fact, I do. Taught it for decades. There is nothing ironic in his statement. There is nothing that in his language that indicates the opposite, or in his meaning that goes against his belief. That would be irony.

I think you don’t understand the meaning of irony.

Why?

Personally? None. The Church owns art, real estate, investments. But not all is the Vatican’s. Some belong to orders and organizations, and can’t be given away.
The pope is not a billionaire.

I love Walz, but the word is “flouting,” not “flaunting.”

Obeying in advance. Kissing the ring. You are an embarrassment to higher education. May the money you receive be worth the descent into fascism that you are facilitating.

He does have a degree in economics.also one in physics.
But it looks like he didn’t learn anything,

Listening does equal reading. Period. If the comprehension is the same and the concentration is there, the book (or essay or poem) is being read.
Authors aren’t as snobbish as you are about this,

Listening is absolutely an action.
February 3, 2025 at 1:33 AM
It absolutely can. It depends upon the attention paid. You can skim a book, and you can listen deeply.

What does spelling a character’s name have to do with comprehension? I allowed students who requested it to use audio books, letting them know they had to pass the same assessments. And every one surpassed their classmates. You assume it’s laziness when it’s simply a different way of learning.

Please don’t blame educators. We do teach critical thinking, geography, logic. But we have no control over the hone environment or culture.

I don’t think you’re wrong. We don’t really know what we’re up against. Thank you for being open to us as we learn (and it’s not your job to teach— you’re doing enough).

CS Lewis, in his advice to writers, said to write with the ear, not the eye. If it doesn’t sound right, it’s poor writing.
And you’re then saying that blind people using braille aren’t reading?
You are simply wrong.
Reading is not based upon a single sense.

Thank you!

I hope you’re wrong. But I don’t blame you at all for believing as you do. Black women have done the heavy lifting for far too long. My support isn’t fake, but I haven’t been tested as you have. I hope I have the courage to stand beside you.

True resisters may live in urban areas, in suburbs, in small towns. How we resist May look different from you. You are not the arbiter of “true” any more than I am.
