In today's pre-match press conference, Charles w/ @circlingseasports.bsky.social asked Laura Harvey about her podcast comment about using ChatGPT to move to a 5-back with Seattle Reign, which went a bit viral this week.

Here's what she said:
I think for clarity and context, we are a club and a team that we are always trying to do everything possible to be innovative and be curious. And I was literally sat in the offseason, bored one day at home, and wrote one thing in one time and I've never done it again and probably won't for a while now. But I think, yeah, it's obviously something that is in our world nowadays I think with life. But does it replace the expertise of coaching staff and the expertise of analysts and all the work that we do every day to try and prepare ourselves? No, absolutely not. But I think the big thing about women's football is we're always trying to be innovative. Whether it be Michele Kang's company working on, I can't remember what the name of it is, but working on the women's health and trying to support our athletes as best we possibly can, we use a lot of technology in how we analyze things, whether it be data performance, whether it be video analytics, whatever it might be to best prepare ourselves to be able to put the best product on the field that we possibly can. And I'm proud to be part of an organization that's always thinking outside the box. This was … what I said was not an example of that. It was me sat on my sofa on my own and in context of what I said, I'd never played a back five in my whole coaching career and I'd never really thought about it. And just by reading some articles it made me think, ‘Oh, maybe it's something I should really look into and could we as a team execute that?’ And that's where the work started really was to really delve deep into was that something that we could do? And from some articles that I read that other teams had thought about it, whether it be in the men's game or in the women's game, they played it in different ways. Obviously Manchester United pretty well-known for playing it right now, and it set me on a journey to go and delve deeper, literally was it that that was all it was. And yeah, the blowup and the, I've never gone viral, so that's been an interesting few days for me. But yeah, obviously for me, I'm just conscious that I don't want to take away anything from our coaching staff and our analytics department and everyone that works so hard on trying to do the best we possibly can every week to put something on the field that our players and our staff and our club can be proud of. And like I said before, none of technology replaces human expertise. Our sport is about gut feeling, it's about going with instinct as much as it's about all the research and all the other stuff that we do behind the scenes that no analytical database is ever going to be able to tell you those things around gut feeling and just the way that you feel about something. And me as a coach, I'm very much drawn into that. Anyone who knows me, actually I'm very anti-data, pretty much you guys say all the time and I'm like, don't talk to me about certain data metrics. I'm not that interested in it. So for me to be the one that's actually blown up virally about something like that, I find quite amusing.

The Sounders still aren’t sure how next season will look, but they did confirm that the World Cup is going to create some significant scheduling conflicts. At best, there will be about six weeks of availability between the start of the MLS season and the end of the World Cup in which Sounders and Reign can play home matches. It remains unclear if they’ll need to use alternate facilities at any point.

Seattle Reign signed UCLA-commit Sofia Cedeno to a contract for the 2025 season, but also loaned her to Brooklyn FC in the USL Super League until June.

New Seattle Reign defender Madison Curry is pretty darn good at soccer. She's also quite smart!

Her love of the game drove her to continue her path from youth soccer to Princeton, where she majored in neuroscience. “Princeton was kind of a random pick for me,” Curry admitted. “I really wanted to find the balance between school and soccer so I could best position myself.” "I've always been a STEM person growing up. Neuroscience really connected with me because I love doing sort of like odd niches and I love the brain.” In addition to majoring in neuroscience, she took a gap semester before her senior year to gain experience as an aerospace engineer intern.

“Toward the middle/end of that [2024] season at Gotham, I felt like I was, one, taking on a lot of burdens that weren’t mine to take on,” said Biyendolo, who added that she asked for a trade. “It didn’t feel like the team and myself were a good fit for each other at that point. “As hard as it was to leave — because I loved the place, I loved the friends I had made there, all of that — for me to start loving soccer again, I knew I needed to move.”
