June 1st. I saw two toadlet youngsters heading through the long grass toward our garden pond. Lovely sighting. Recorded with Travelling Toadlets. 🐸🐸

June 5th 2012.
A handsome poplar hawkmoth. I couldn't believe it when I saw him perched outside my bat flight in broad daylight. I kept him safe during the day and released him later that night.

It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little. Do what you can.

Bryony, an underweight little pipistrelle bat. She arrived yesterday. The finder's partner kindly drove a 50 min. journey, to deliver her to me. In the photo, she’s had a drink and fallen asleep in my gloved hand. I’m pleased to say she has already gained some weight and has settled in well.

He’s a pip, and a little cutie. He was alive and didn’t need any encouragement to start drinking. He was extremely thirsty.

The finder has no idea how long he’d been in the toilets. At 4.28g, he’s underweight for this time of year; however, I’m pleased to say everything else seems to be in order

Also, not forgetting my little Brown Long-eared bat, Little Boots. She was an excellent weight, and flew strong in her test flight. Before release, I give rescues a small meal and drink and she decided to also have a quick nap in her dish. Her release went really well and she was off like a shot. 😀

The cold weather remains a concern, but overall, this mild window has worked out well. The three Pips — Jamie, Evie, and Laura — were released last night. They had all gained weight, and during test flights in my bat flight all flew well.

Mid-summer 2023. New bee hotel installed and within weeks a couple of new lodgers had arrived. 👍 They are either Red or Blue Mason bees. I’m chuffed to bits.

Rescued from inside a Boots Chemist shop, Little Boots has settled in well and is lapping up her rehydration fluid. Due to the lack of insects and extreme weather conditions she is sadly underweight for this time of year. Once she has gained weight and the weather is suitable she will be realeased.

I’m chuffed to bits, they’re all self-feeding which makes life a lot easier. Seems little Laura couldn't be bothered to go to bed after her meal though.

Bracken, brown long-eared and Drusilla, pipistrelle, were both found grounded. Over time both bats gained weight, and were flying and manoeuvering well in my bat flight. Their finders asked many questions and were delighted to see their bats in good health and flying free. A successful evening. 💚🦇💚

Little Boots was recently rescued from inside a Boots Chemists shop. She is underweight for this time of year but thankfully no injuries and she has settled in well.
